me no happy

me no happy

Okay…so I’ve been frothing at the mouth for the April sock package from Woolgirl. Mail just came and nothing today.  So, I’m hoping (praying…begging…pleading…demanding…SIGH…persevering…) that I get it tomorrow!

Going to go stuff myself with chocolate now…………..

Patiently waiting….NOT!

Wild Woolly waiting....

It has come to my attention (well…not really. Since Jen at Woolgirl posted last week that the April Sock packages were shipping Monday I’ve been stalking Ravelry like a frothy-mouthed hyena) that some lucky people — mostly on the West Coast — have received their second sock club package. I was determined not look at any spoilers this month, and that lasted about….hmmm about 5 seconds, and I had to look. Had to. I won’t spill the beans in this posting — but, it is phenomenal!!! I am soooo looking forward to receiving my package. I just have no patience (and apparently no self restraint) - why is that??

On another note, if you are a quilter, check this out: Amy @ Park City Girl blogspot has created/organized an amazing online quilt festival. At the moment, over 550 quilters who blog have submitted a quilt to the virtual festival. Mine is number 515.  It’s an awesome idea, and really getting quilters who blog jiving together. Hmm…could we do something like this with knitted socks??

Happy Easter

102_5236-800Hey! It’s Easter! Did the bunny visit your house? I’ve been searching high and low and can’t seem to find anything special that’s been left here. Well…actually there was a special delivery made about two weeks ago (that is, we shopped for easter goodies) - but, it’s all been devoured by now… So, Easter for Erwin and me is basically taking it easy, missing the kids, making and drinking lattes. The kids left for Vancouver last Monday - we already had our special meals with them, so tonight it’s Chinese food (can’t wait!). I’ve been putting together a Queen -size bed quilt (see my quiting blog about that).

It’s very hard to blog when so little is going on! I did go through my yarn stash this morning to discover that my yarn colours are identical to my quilting fabrics (mostly darks - burgundy, blues, hunter green, etc.). As a matter of fact,  this is the only light colour skein that I own:

Fleece Artist "trail" sock yarn

Fleece Artist "trail" sock yarn

That’s pathetic! So…then…the quest is on to buy some lighter yarns — some pinks, light blues, pastel greens etc. I can only hope that I get some pastels from all those yarn clubs that I’ve joined this year!

The good, the bad, and the ugly

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

102_5161-800These are three socks that are currently on my needles. Can you guess which is the good, bad & ugly one?

Hint: The good is one of my favourite colours (purples). Well, no guessing there. The purple sock is a Trekking XXL yarn - very nice to work with, knits up quickly and the colours are gorgeous. My gauge is a little smaller than usual on these - not sure why.

Hint: The bad one is a new pattern that I am learning. Yep, I came out of my box of plain stockinette knitting of self-patterning yarn - and I am trying a pattern. It’s the yellow/brown/peach combo, a pattern called “Jaywalker” and is quite easy. I had to learn a couple of new stitches, and after awhile “got it”.  However, this sock is “bad” because it’s got a bunch of mistakes that I made knitting it (the mistakes don’t affect the integrity  or structure of the sock), plus I don’t like to frog. So, I left in the mistakes and my daughter wants them mistakes and all. The yarn is a Brooklyn Handspun 100% merino, and is VERY fine, and knits up slowly - but very nice feel.

Hint: The ugly is the last one standing - the weird coloured one. Hence the least amount of knitting.  I completely dislike the colour combinations and pattern of this self-patterning yarn (Online Supersocke). I don’t know why I bought this colour - somehow in the yarn shop it looked nice. It’s a combinations of maroon/chartreuse/lime/blue. Again, my daughter says that she wants this pair, so it’s not being thrown into a dark closet.
