Fly away home.
Your house is on fire.
And your children all gone.

All except one,And that’s little Ann,
For she crept under
The frying pan

In keeping with the Seinfeld back in time episode, and, as I promised in yesterday’s post,  I continue my trip going back in time. Earlier this week (Monday, Sept. 21) I received Woolgirl’s sock club  August  kit (it was late and we only got it in September). So, this is a SPOILER kids,  look away now if you want to keep it a surprise:

Okay….it was the spoiler button, so one more chance to look away before I show the contents of the kit……….

100_1239-800August/September’s theme is ladybugs, or “love bugs” as Jen of Woolgirl calls the sock pattern. Cool, huh? That plastic ball thingy is a 7″ fibersphere….To keep yarn in and out of the dust. I’m using it right now with an earflap hat project.

Here is what was inside the hamster ball fibersphere:100_1243-800Yowza! A whole bunch of ladybug swag!

1 skein of Miss Babs Yummy fingering weight in the Ladybug colourway.

Janie H. Knits — What a sale!

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Yesterday I drove to Perth, with hubby in tow,  to check out the advertised sale by Janie H. Knits called “101 Yarns You’ve Always Wanted”. I had seen the ad in the little local newspaper, plus received various phonecalls and emails from knitting buddies spreading the word about the sale. I had no idea what to expect. The sale was being held at the Legion hall rather than the store, and Janie referred to it as “clearing out the yarns I have in the basement”. I’m glad that I didn’t get there for the opening at 9:30 AM because there must have been a huge lineup (and with my poor mangled knee ligaments, I could not have stood in line even using the cane).  Anyhow, by the time I got there at 10AM the place was packed, and already a huge lineup for the cash!  She had TONS of stuff - yarns, notions, bags, patterns, books, you name it…And, most everything was at least 50% off.

The plan was to meet up with my sister-in-law (with my brother in tow), so that we could shop together while the boys went out for coffee.  Well…it didn’t work out that way. They got lost in Perth and we basically talked them through the directions while we were standing in the LONG lineup to pay. It was at least 45 minutes or longer to get to the cash. That’s where DH came in really, really handy….He was holding my place in the line, while I hobbled around looking at more stuff…He is a Saint!! Apparently, other knitting ladies “borrowed” him to hold their places in the line up as well. Needless to say, the deal was that I would take him out for lunch afterwards! (We were going out to lunch with SIL and my brother afterwards anyhow…..so, geez, I got off pretty easy!)

Here are the sock yarns that I scored:

Colinette Jitterbug in Raspberry

And, for a skinny scarf I found this stuff:

Zittron Unikat

Zitron Unikat in Bulky Weight

“Unikat” Yarn

From the moment we first touched “Unikat” from Zitron we knew this supersoft merino was just crying out for felting. As a high-end, cutting-edge option, “Unikat” has received the highest ranking in textile artistry & the highest wool rating in the world. Its development took 2 years of careful testing & research until the yarn aficionados at Zitron were satisfied they had a spectacular hand-dyed option for discerning yarn enthusiasts around the world. 100% extrafine merino beautifully crafted in Germany with generous yardage & quick-to-knit versatility.

That’s pretty cool!

BTW, the sale is still on today — so, if you are a knitter and get there, it’s well worth the drive.

So here we are…the first Indigo Moon Yarn Club!!!!

How Long?

Subscriptions will run for 3 months with shipments in May, June and July 2009.

What colour?

All colourways will be dyed specifically for the yarn club. If a colourway seems the same as another colourway you’ve seen, please be assured that I did not repeat it. I am very particular about my colourways and feel that not everything works…or more correctly, it all works but I may not like it. And if I don’t like a colourway I won’t sell it…even if it is a never-before-done colourway (eg yellow and red).

All colourways are limited editions - I only paint/dye what has been ordered and are “Dyer’s Choice” at this time.

These colourways will be available only to IM Yarn Club subscribers.

What yarn?

The Yarn will be your ever favorite superwash merino in fingering wt. I will consider other base yarns in the future.

What is the cost?

$90 Canadian Subscription includes shipping of 1 skein per month.

$130 US Subscription (paid in Canadian funds) shipping of 1 skein per month.

Please contact me for international orders.

Gift Giving?

If you would like to purchase a subscription for a friend or family member, I am happy to bill the gift giver, and ship to the gift recipient. Please make a note on your order (there is a box to write “notes”) and whether it is a surprise or not.

Refunds

No refunds available once subscription buy-ins are finished on the April 15th.

When and how to order?

April 1, 2009 9am PST subscriptions will open and close April 15, 2009 or sooner if the maximum number of subscriptions have been reached. This will be going through my website.

Click here to choose a Canadian or US membership (payable in Canadian funds):

What if lost?info@indigomoonyarns.com.

I will hold back some skeins each month in case of loss in shipping. Each package will have a tracking number so if it doesn’t arrive we’ll find out why, and a replacement will be sent. These skeins will be available at the end of the 3 month subscription period to IM Yarn Club members only (how or when to be decided).

Next time?

All signees of this term will have first choice to sign up for the next term which has a planned start date of Sept 2009.

Enjoy!!!

This club promises to be exciting!!

Sock month at Janie H Knits & another one crosses over to the dark side…

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

My sister-in-law, Laura, is an expert knitter yet has never knit socks. I’ve been raving to her about how addicted I’ve become to sock knitting,  the portability etc. With very little prodding she has crossed over to the dark side — and with my help is learning how. Of course we had to take a little trip yesterday to one of my favourite yarn shops, Janie H Knits in Perth, ON. Low and  behold, March is sock month at the store, with great deals on for sock yarn and sock-related things. Laura stocked up on a bunch of yarns, and sock knitting accessories (gotta love those Go Knit pouches from KnowKnits ). I picked up some Regia cotton blend - Weekend - wool.

and, some Fleece Artist 100% merino.

At the speed of light….

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Okay, so last week at this time I didn’t even know if I had actually ordered some Wollmeise from Yarnissima - and I wasn’t even sure that they were in the Netherlands. Well, today, in my mailbox appears an envelope from the Netherlands, and the lovely, lovely Fratello kit — Fratello sock pattern and beautiful Wollmeise yarn - plus some cute little extras. Now, that’s customer service!

But, I’m still wondering…how can something go from Holland to Canada in just a week? I’m still waiting for my first Woolgirl Sock Club package (I see on the internet that some lucky people have received theirs) from the US, and that’s almost 2 weeks now.

This photo just doesn’t do this yarn justice - it’s in beautiful, rich brown tones. I am nervous though because the pattern looks quite elaborate, plus it’s a toe up pattern - I’ve never done that before…

Have I just gotten my hands on a  skein of Wollmeise? I am not sure. I’ve been scouring the internet and ebay - and have not been able to buy a skein of this elusive yarn. I must get my hands on some to see if what “they” are saying is really, really true…From the wollmeise web page I ended up at an online store called Yarnissima , that I think is in the Netherlands - and although they did not have any skeins of wollmeise, they had a kit - they claim that the yarn in the kit is wollmeise - I’ve made the purchase, got a confirmation email - and I guess that now it is all a waiting game!

So, I MAY just have gotten my hands on some elusive Wollmeise!! Stay tuned….
